What we do

Inspection built around your structure.

From routine general inspections to detailed principal inspections, assessment and design, we shape each commission around the structure and the decision that follows.

Principal inspections

Detailed close-up examination of all accessible parts of a structure, normally on a six-year cycle, with condition ratings and prioritised remedial works.

General inspections

Visual condition checks between principal inspections, typically every two years, ideal for large programmes of structures.

Confined space inspections

Safe entry into box girders, culverts, subways and hollow abutments, with gas monitoring and rescue cover.

Structural assessment

Load assessment of bridges, masonry arches and retaining walls to CS 454, with weight limit advice and repair options.

Design & calculation checks

Independent checks and strengthening design for structures, including retaining walls and bridge repairs.

Highway & road design

Carriageway, junction, footway and drainage design from options through to construction drawings.

Every type of highway structure, of every size.

We inspect and report on the full range of structures that highway authorities manage.

Standards we work to

Our inspections, assessments and designs follow the current UK highway standards and codes of practice.

CS 450

Inspection of highway structures (DMRB), covering principal and general inspection regimes.

CS 454

Assessment of highway bridges and structures, replacing the former BD 21.

CG 300

Technical Approval of Highway Structures, and the Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice.

Eurocodes & H&S

BS EN Eurocodes with UK National Annexes, CDM 2015 and the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997.

Inspection

Clear evidence, delivered in the format you need.

Our inspection teams plan access, traffic management and safe systems of work before arriving, then record condition consistently so reports are easy to act on.

  • Principal and general inspections to CS 450, in line with the Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice
  • Assessment to CS 454 and design to the Eurocodes with UK National Annexes
  • Element-level condition ratings, defect records and photographs
  • Prioritised remedial works with budget estimates
  • Reports tailored to your asset management system
Confined spaces & access

Capability where access is difficult.

Box girders, culverts, subways and hollow abutments need careful planning. We assess risk, plan entry and keep rescue cover in place, then collect the evidence the engineering question needs.

  • Planned entry under the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 and CDM 2015
  • Atmospheric monitoring throughout
  • Inspection of internal steelwork, concrete, drainage and bearings
  • Records that link every defect to its location

A clear route from question to answer.

  1. Define

We confirm the structures, constraints, existing records and what the report must support.

  2. Plan

Risk assessments, access, permits and traffic management are arranged before we visit.

  3. Inspect

We record condition on site, and report urgent defects straight away.

  4. Report

Checked reports with findings, priorities and practical recommendations.
